On September 6, 2004, the Indonesian activist Munir Said Thalib, known simply as Munir, boarded flight GA-974 from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta to the Netherlands, via Singapore. By the time his flight touched down in Holland, Munir was dead.
Matt Easton’s We Have Tired of Violence (New Press 2022) is a powerful, forensic account of the killing of Munir, and its tangled political backdrop. You can read my just-published review of Easton’s book in the TLS.
