I’m writing this from the beautiful surroundings of the Taiwan Literature Base, on Qidong Street in Taipei. The Literature Base is a cluster of Japanese-era houses and is run by the Taiwan National Museum of Literature. I’m here along with my collaborator Hannah Stevens on the Literature Base’s Writers-in-residence programme. As it is January, it is a little chilly. But, squeezed in between the high-rises, this cluster of one-storey houses is incredibly beautiful. And I’ve been enjoying the opportunity to return to writing fiction, working on a new series of short stories.
As part of the residency, we are also required to run some public events. So yesterday, we welcomed a group of writers into our temporary home to run a workshop called “Interweavings | 經緯” (which is also the name of our residency), exploring how our identities and our societies are woven from a multiplicity of voices and stories. We had Greg Laslo on hand for his excellent interpretation skills.
The event was a lot of fun. Here are a few photos.
