Wisdom on the Move

Several years ago, I set up Looking for Wisdom, a philosophy blog and newsletter. At the time, were under lockdown in Sofia, Bulgaria, and I was casting about for something to do. So I thought I’d try a philosophy-by-email project.

Running Looking for Wisdom was a blast, and I wrote a lot on the site — something like one quarter of a million words. There were philosopher profiles, interviews, blogs, articles, extended philosophical explorations of topics from love to work. I learned a lot, and it was lots of fun. But in the last year or so, I’ve been aware that I haven’t given Looking for Wisdom the attention it needs. For one thing, I now work full-time at Parami University in Myanmar (although I’m based in Taiwan). On top of this, I have books to write, and projects that I am running with my social enterprise Wind&Bones. So it’s a busy time, and I’ve come to a decision to make some changes.

Lots of people have told me they find the content on Looking for Wisdom helpful. So, after some thought, I’ve decided to merge all the content with this website. My aim in this is to put everything that I write more or less in one place. So I will continue to write about philosophy over here, and about writing, and about other things, but now everything will be gathered on this one site. This cuts down the burden of running multiple sites, and makes things much more streamlined.

It’s taken a bit of behind-the-scenes work (although, because Hugo, the tool I use to manage this blog, is a delight to work with, not as much as you might think), but now all the content from Looking for Wisdom is now live on this site.

The next step is to send out a newsletter to subscribers letting them know that I’m rebranding Looking for Wisdom newsletter as Wayward Things, which is the name of the newsletter I have been running here on WillBuckingham.com. The two newsletters had pretty much the same remit, so it makes sense not to run them in parallel. What this means is this:

  • If you are a subscriber to Wayward Things, you don’t have to do anything. You can just keep on subscribing.
  • If you subscribe to Looking for Wisdom, you will be moved over to the newly rebranded newsletter. If you want to keep receiving it, you don’t need to do anything. Or, of course, you are welcome to unsubscribe.

I’m currently trying to put in place some elegant redirects from the old articles on Looking for Wisdom to this website, and to switch over the newsletter signup forms. There may be a few glitches, but once it’s all done, everything will be neatly in one place. I hope you like it!
